Editorial standards

Editorial policy.

Justice for Survivors publishes plain-English information about California sexual abuse and sexual assault law. Every page on this site is written, reviewed, and maintained under the standards below.

Sourcing

We cite primary California authority wherever possible. Statutory deadlines come from the Code of Civil Procedure and the Government Code as published on leginfo, the Legislature's own site, and every citation on a page links to the section it relies on. Court procedure comes from the California Courts and its Self-Help Center. Secondary sources are used only to summarise or give context to primary law, and are identified as such.

Attorney review

Every substantive page is reviewed by a California-licensed attorney before publication and again at least annually. Pages that state a filing deadline, a code section, or a procedural step are flagged for review whenever the authority behind them changes.

Update cadence

California revival windows open and close on fixed dates, so a page that was correct last year can be wrong this year without anybody editing it. Pages tied to a window that is still open are rechecked monthly, every other statutory page is rechecked each calendar year and after any meaningful legislative change, and the date of the last review appears on the page itself.

What this site is, and what it is not

Pages on this site are general legal information, not legal advice. Reading them does not create an attorney-client relationship. These claims are fact-specific, and only a consultation with a licensed attorney can tell you how the law applies to your situation.

Authorities we rely on

  • California Code of Civil Procedure (leginfo)
  • California Courts
  • California Courts Self-Help
  • State Bar of California
